Constance Humphries is a maker, performer, collaborator and teacher, Humphries work revolves around two fundamental questions: “Who am I (are we)? and Where am I (are we)?” With a dedication to emergent practices that support curiosity, experiment, and play, Humphries examines what it is to be human by connecting to messy, ordinary and extraordinary bits of life, seeking to uncover meaning and inspiration for creative practice through an excavation of the body and its relationship to its environment and community. Utilising lenses of cultural and multi-species exchange that celebrate and promote diverse experiences, inquiries delve into themes of identity, relationship, memory and place. Informed by her education in art, philosophy, and information science, her training in dance theatre and butoh, and research into embodied improvisation, the work exists at an intersection of various analogue and digital approaches. Humphries has been supported by Arts Council England, CoLab Sunderland for SeaScapes, National Trust, Asheville Area Arts Council, and the NC Arts Council and she has been presented in Mexico, Germany, Italy, the US, and the UK.
