A Boggy Gassy Bubble

The Boggy Gassy Bubble is a drawing and sculpture in progress. Its skin – a large, white, custom-made inflatable, is dispersed with hundreds of thousands of fragmented datapoints. These points translate a live ‘local’ data stream of peat moisture, temperature, methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and air humidity, sensed by probes inserted into turves of peat in buckets placed both within and outside the bubble.

The work visibilises raw environmental data as a fragile, expanding volume. Through a delicate and migratory accumulation of marks, the bubble becomes a physical manifestation of the “gaseous” nature of the data, a transient membrane archiving methane and carbon. By mapping this stream onto an inflatable form, invisible chemical emissions are transformed into a tangible, atmospheric presence.
