13th September – crawl six – Losing my identity (like a wind in the Shipping Forecast!)

The photos above are from my 6th crawl across farm land and around the base of Clog.

Since the last post I have met with musicians; Jasper Salmon, Diarmuid Johnson and Harriet Earis, I’ve enjoyed showing them some work in progress, sharing my ideas and talking with them about the project amongst many other things, they are all wonderfully inspiring people, each unique and rich in character, all offering their individual perspectives and experiences. Its extremely exciting anticipating their contributions, knowing that each will lead this project in a new unexpected direction, I really enjoy this purposefully unknown aspect to the project.

I also met with Alex Boyd – Jones at the Oriel Davies Gallery, we had, as always a fantastic meeting and conversation, where I was able to share and thrash out my ideas. Alex is excited and supportive of my new direction with the installation – 7 or 5 synced projections in an open horseshoe shape with one synced soundscape. So now with the help of Charles Farina of Edge Arts, who advised the installation of Passage at the ICIA in Bath and Andy Moss from Spike Island I am working out how to make it happen.

I also went over to see Dr Mariecia Fraser and John Davies at Pwllpeiran, the Upland Research Platform in Cwmystwyth, we had a very productive and stimulating discussion around our course of action. I was thrilled to be introduced to PhD student Ben’s imaging/mapping software, I need to find out what it is called!?. He is using an Ariel camera at 120m to fly over the landscape, once the footage is uploaded into the software he is able to highlight the varying vegetation, water logged areas and sheep, he has offered to fly the camera over me in the landscape, I will appear as a cluster of hard edged white pixels!. The images in a multitude of colours are very intriguing and beautiful.

Also Rhys Thwaites – Jones, director and cameraman from Fforest films has now joined Hannah and I on my crawls. He has added a new and welcome dynamic to the experience, I am really enjoying the focus and intensity that each of us bring to the 43 minute experience.

The photos by Hannah Mann are becoming increasingly abstract, and my presence is becoming increasingly elusive, she is experimenting with various lenses and filters and ranges of focus, as always I am thrilled with them and always totally surprised by how she documents my experience.
